What got you into the adult industry?
Sarah: What got me into the adult industry? Erm...I wish I could be totally cliché here and tell you a little Adult Industry Fairy tale but it really wasn't like that! I watched a documentary on the UK TV channel BBC THREE about Cam Girls in 2014. If I remember correctly it featured three British girls who worked as Webcam Models on the site that I now work for, Adultwork. I remember watching the documentary in complete awe! The confidence that these girls possessed was so fucking sexy! I loved how they spoke about their admiration for the job and how independent they were. I remember sitting there and thinking "WOW! I wish I could do something like that!" At this time in my life, I had been dating someone for 5 years who had got into bad gambling habits and he had hidden it all from me for quite some time. So after I found out about the debts he had run up, I ended up putting two and two together and it resulted in me doing some research and TADAHH...here I am! I started off part time whilst doing a very vanilla job but as of January 2017 I am now fully self employed and work only for myself!
JJ: Well that's a very honest and relatable way to get into the industry. I'm sure people are reading this and thinking the same thing you thought about those girls on the TV show.
What's the best thing about the industry?
Sarah: Hmmmm I LOVE this question. The best thing about the industry? I have lots of favs but here are some of my favourite favs...
- My adult girlfriends. I have met some of the most incredibly smart, kind, beautiful females online since doing this job. There's a real bond that you get with girls who do this job. We stick together, support one another and advise one another. I can't imagine doing this without a good group of girls by your side when you're doing the nightshift and I'm sure that there are
people who work within this industry who don't get along, so I count myself super lucky!
- INDEPENDANCE AND LIBERATION! Don't get it twisted...so many people think that people who work in the adult industry are either forced into it/less fortunate/didn't have a choice. I can honestly say that this job set me free! Never have I been more independent and never have I felt more liberated as a woman!
- Speaking to people from all walks of life. I love this one! People fascinate me!
-The fact that I can be a HAPPY plus sized girl and still make it work in this industry! The body confidence this job has given me is UNREAL!
JJ; That's one of my favourite answers for that question ever. You literally just opened yourself up to the world with that answer.
What's the worst thing about the industry?
Sarah: Uh Oh! This job balances itself out and there can be just as many negatives as there are positives. This is why people should always really THINK about what they're doing before they start. It's not all glamour and dollar signs!
Some of the worst things about this industry..
- Stigma. This whole thing about "All sex workers are dirty/have no morals/are cheap/uneducated/diseased/from poor backgrounds."
I graduated with a 2:1 BA Hons from a London University in 2011 and my father is a highly successful Property Developer. I had other choices to make but in the end, this was MY choice. And I love and respect my choice and wouldn't change it. Unfortunately, we live in a world where if you are a Sex Worker, the stigma follows you regardless of choice and you're really fighting a losing battle if you care about that too much. So I'm going to do me, regardless!
- Hard work and no sleep! People are mistaken about this industry when they think that it's an easy way to make fast cash! They couldn't be further from the truth. Long days/nights, editing and reediting stuff, no sleep and lots of sweat! This job is tough but super worth it when you see your hard work paying off!
- "Show me your tits!" Fellow sex workers will just get it. Say no more.
What's the funniest thing to happen to you whilst working?
Sarah: FAR too many funny things to mention. Probably something like the many times I've had to hold in a fart when fucking myself!
JJ: Hahaha I love it. The staring of working on cam haha. They don't put that on the job specification haha.
What are you up to work wise at the moment?
Sarah: Lots of exciting things are happening right now! I am busy working on my Manyvids site right now BBWSARAHSPENCER.MANYVIDS.COMwhere I am creating lots of BBW content for all the BBW lovers out there! My Manyvids sat dormant for a year and a half and I started using it properly at the beginning of March and the feedback has been crazy exciting! Where's your favourite place to go on holiday?
Sarah: Its gotta be Las Vegas! I went to Vegas in August 2016 and it was hands down, the best week of my life! We stayed in the most incredible suite in The Venetian, we met Gordon Ramsey, I got up on Stage with Penn and Teller for one of their magic tricks. I was right at the front of Rod Stewart for his concert at Caesars Palace. I shopped until I Dropped and drank until I stank, literally! The craziest, most incredible city in the world! Going back to the states either next year or year after but we're going to LA, Hollywood, Beverly Hills first and spending our last 3 days in Vegas. I also have a love for Canada! I travelled around Canada when I was 15/16 with my family but now I have a boyfriend who lives in Toronto so I try to get out there as much as I can. Toronto is amazing too! I was there 6 weeks ago and I return to Toronto in 8 weeks! Super excited!
JJ: Vegas is truly my favourite city on the planet. I can lose myself there easily. It's amazing. Having a boyfriend who lives so far away must be tough. I'm sure your fans keep you distracted enough until you get to go back.
Tell me one thing about yourself I wouldn't know just by looking at you?
Sarah: Biggest thing no one would know by looking at me? Now that's a secret and that's why no one knows.
JJ: Ahhhh touché. It appears I have met my match with that question.
What's been your biggest achievement in life or work?
Sarah: Biggest achievement in Life: Graduating from University and lots of other personal things.
Biggest achievement in work: This month I really feel like my hard work is paying off so I would say that March 2017 was a big stepping stone for me in terms of getting content out there and the reward coming back ten fold!
JJ: What's been the most challenging thing you've had to overcome?
Sarah: The most challenging thing I've overcome would probably be getting over depression and anxiety in 2014 after suffering with it for two years. I don't think anxiety ever really leaves you once you've suffered with it but I learnt how to cope and deal with it after feeling so out of control for so long and it no longer rules my life.
JJ: That's brilliant to hear and I'm sure will give other people who read this who might suffer from anxiety and depression some hope.
What's the nicest thing a fan has ever done for you?
Sarah: One particular fan from Ireland sends me spontaneous gift cards every couple of weeks with a cute message saying "thinking of you" or "hope you're well Miss Spencer.." It makes me blush! He's so cute.
JJ: Obviously his is smitten with you and from doing this interview I can see why completely.
What's one bit of advice you'd give to anyone getting into the industry?
Sarah: DO NOT be misled with the idea that this is a way for you to make FAST cash. It takes a lot of effort, sleepless nights, pain and dedication for someone to be well established within this industry. Us girls work bloody hard and if you want to do this bad enough you must accept that hard work is part of the job role - it isn't easy!
Also remember that this is something you can't just take back. Technology these days can also be like the devil himself and once something is out there, it's out there for good and it can come back to haunt you if you end up deciding that this industry is not for you. You need to be realistic about what you're really doing.
JJ: Some very real and no nonsense advice there. People take note as it will be the difference between you succeeding or failing in this industry.
What do you think you'll do if you ever leave the industry?
Sarah: Erm... If the day comes when I decide to leave the industry for good I will probably stay self employed and work as a interpreter/translator and use my degree. Now I've had a taste of being my own boss, I don't think I could ever work for anyone ever again! The freedom and independence it has given me has changed my life! I'm really happy with my life right now and I'm so content with my work life too that I can't see that changing anytime soon!
JJ: That's good to hear that you're happy with your life as it is currently and it's great to see you have a back up plan too.
Finally, what's the weirdest rumour you've ever heard about yourself?
Sarah: The weirdest rumour I've heard about myself? Nope, I don't pay attention to rumours even if there were any. I know a lot of people at my old job had A LOT to say about my Adult job when I still worked there and there were a lot of rumours flying around. One girl even made me the topic of conversation at her own wedding reception...what a boring wedding that must've been hey? But nope, rumours are rumours and I can't pay my bills with rumours so I pay no mind to them. Especially when they come from a miserable minimum wage worker with a serious hate for their job! I'm the happiest I have EVER been and I owe a lot of it to this job. Life is far too short and far too precious to not be happy right? I do what I want because this is MY life and I'm not going to regret a damn thing when I'm old, grey and can no longer shake my butt without popping a hip. Imagine for a second if you spent your life worrying about rumours or what people thought of you! I used to care but my whole thought process on life has changed since I started doing this full time. I seriously fucking love what I do and people who have time to gossip about me are the people who aren't focusing on their own goals because they're too damn busy stalking my twitter with a disapproved look on their face.
